Someone I know only through the web had been sharing a link to get free Steam Wallet Cards. Steam is a gaming platform for Windows where all games are in one spot and you connect to others play the same games and can see them online and chat with them, play games with them, learn about new games and buy more games through Steam's wallet. Through the years, even BEFORE Steam was called Steam (it used to be known as Sierra Valve and Steam ID's were known as WON ID's) people have been trying to hack into Steam accounts and gain control of them for various reasons (originally I think to gain access to games without paying for them but now it is more than that since you can now buy games through Steam instead of attaching CD Keys off a CD cover to Steam).
As the years go by, the scammers are getting more and more clever in tricking people into giving away their account information. Now you don't even know your information is stolen until it is too late.
Anyway before I go into past news stories I want to share about this current scam I was investigating:
Before going to the site myself, seeing the link my friend had posted I was already suspicious. I talked to him and he said he thought it might be at first but then decided to trust it and many friends have clicked on it. I decided to do some research and keep a posted log about my findings along the way:

Testing the site out with proxies to get the necessary minimum clicks without risking anyone I got the first one unlocked.
It is not secure and susceptible to abuse because .. there ARE no steam cards. They just want you to get people to spread around the link so they get more suckers. Then when you unlock one, the UNLOCK is clickable to a ../working.php page.
Instead of proceeding on my current computer I checked the WhoIs of the site owner and found out his email address and supposed name even though the website itself had no contact information. I used that information to do further searching for if anyone else has researched if this was a scam or not.

According to www.spam404.com/steam-wallet-cardscom.html:
Is steam-wallet-cards.com a scam?
Yes, this website is a known survey scam.
I am so glad someone said it right to the point. Thank you Spam404 for what you do!
Someone else's findings:
Also some have said they tested and watched what it does in the background (they know how to do this) and saw that spyware was installed in the background during a scan of verification and it could possible steal your account login info?

this topic was about steam-cards.com, a site claiming to offer free wallet cards in exchange for clicking on codes and sharing them on social media sites etc., but it was just a scam to get site hits and ends up directing you to a list of surveys to choose from…so the usual bs basically. Just a heads up if you come across it the site uses Valve’s template and looks legit at a first glance, but if you look closely it becomes clear that it’s a crock.

Yeah turned out to be one of those ‘choose from our list of surveys to prove you’re real’ bullshit scams lol…knew it was too good/easy to be true but wondered if anyone had checked it out before.
