An email has been going around June 2012 and a few have already reported it.
I decided to investigate it for myself after getting it in my normal inbox.
The email read like this:
Right away you can see how this is fake can't you?
First of all .. no mention of your name (which they WOULD know if they are legitimately your credit card company) as well as Visa and MasterCard are 2 different companies and would never send an email like this.
On top of that, they are too big of a company to have any url link like that (hosted at a .biz host no less). You would never be taken straight to a verification page to put in your information and you would never be asked for information that ONLY you can know (yes not even they are allowed to know your mother's maiden name or security code).
"During the past few years there have been a massive number of identity theft attempts targeting Visa/Mastercard customers" made me laugh as everyone knows this has been happening for the past few years (longer) and it is nothing new but gets people who don't know better to think their Credit Card might have been one of the ones targeted and stop thinking this out logically.
This part is a definite scare tactic putting pressure on you to do this before your senses come back to your mind:
"The following process is obligatory, and if not completed within the nearest amount of time your credit card(s) may be subject to permanent suspension."
I will be attaching the images to show you what the scam looks like and how it grabs ALL the information you type in (however I can only post one picture per post in this thread so bare with me).
Others are talking about this scam as well and some are not sure if it is a scam or not. Let me tell you, IT IS!
