This is something I hear all the time! People don't know where they can get anti-virus and when they go to the store they are overwhelmed so they search the net. They find they can get programs for free but do not know how to tell the real ones from the fake ones and the ones that say they are free that are really trials or demos or will scan but not clean without you buying it. So where should you go when you got a fresh install of Windows and need security? Easiest place to tell people to go is here since the link is easy enough to remember for anyone who understands how url's look in the first place, and that can get the person protected enough to start. www.microsoft.com/security/default.aspxAfter that what I do (as I had to do this for my own mother) is I install Browser extensions to tell when using search engines if a link is safe to go to or not. For us we can tell by the url if it is fishy or as soon as we go there and are smart enough to not click on certain things, but for them they need this extra help. You can read more about browser extensions for most browsers here: kasha-against-spam.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=generalsecurity&action=display&thread=178Also here is a list of more extensions but just for Firefox for now even though a lot of them are also available for Chrome and Safari I believe: kasha-against-spam.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=generalsecurity&action=display&thread=80
